Work-Life Balance: A Critical Component of Our Lives | “When we lose our health due to extra work hours, how can we manage to survive?”
Maintaining a work-life balance is one of the most important aspects of our lives. People choose different professions based on their interests and work different hours based on their industries. My question is: How crucial is it to maintain a work-life balance?
People generally try to spend time with their families or pursue their life goals after work hours. However, recently, leaders such as Infosys founder Mr. Narayana Murthy and L&T chairman Mr S. N. Subrahmanyan have suggested that working 70 to 90 hours per week can boost productivity. Is this really true? Can working long hours make people more productive, or does it create stress, leading to physical and mental health issues?
Consider the case of EY employee Anna Sebastian, who tragically lost her life at the age of 26 due to the stress and extra hours. When people are motivated toward work, they may spend long hours and improve productivity. However, when they lack motivation and must fulfill responsibilities toward their families and hobbies, long work hours become counterproductive and stressful.
Lack of sleep and stress from extra hours can cause psychological problems, leading to physical health issues. People may not even be satisfied with additional salary benefits if they are unhappy with the extra work hours. When we get proper sleep and maintain mental health, we can perform well at work and support our families. But what if we lose our health due to additional work hours? We won't be able to do office work or be helpful to our families.
So, my suggestion is that working regular hours and fulfilling our life goals are more beneficial than working extra hours. Friends, what do you think? Is it better to maintain a work-life balance or not? Please provide your comments.
