Are Humans Evolving Toward Progress or Self-Destruction

"Selfish nature of us can cause destruction not improvement"

Humanity has evolved significantly, transitioning from the age of hunting in jungles to living in a civilized society. But the question remains: are we truly progressing, or are we heading toward self-destruction? While it may seem that we are improving day by day, evidence suggests otherwise. For instance, the harm we've inflicted on the environment has led to drastic changes in weather patterns. Despite being aware of the environmental crisis and the increasing frequency of heatwaves, we continue to pursue strategies that exacerbate the problem.

Our choices, particularly in electing leaders, often prioritize economic aspects while neglecting other crucial factors. A notable example is the election of Donald Trump in the United States. Despite widespread awareness of his personality and ethics, a majority chose to support him. This decision reflected a preference for self-interest over global considerations. Trump's promise to "Make America Great Again" resonated with many, but it also led to policies that disregarded the well-being of other nations. His administration's decisions, such as excluding Ukraine from peace talks with Russia and withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, highlight a disregard for global cooperation and environmental responsibility. Policies like reciprocal tariffs further showcased an aggressive approach, reflecting a broader trend of destructive decision-making.

In India, the preference for maintaining religious identity is a significant factor in the support for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alongside economic stability. This tendency to prioritize self-interest is evident not only in political choices but also in our approach to environmental issues. The consequences of these decisions reveal whether we are on a path of destruction or progress.

As the renowned philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti suggested, meaningful change is possible through inner revolt. However, with the current mindset, are we truly capable of such a transformation for the better?
